Quality definitions comprise qualitative descriptions that distinguish student performance across a continuum for a given criterion. In this paper we will explore what a rubric is, the different types of rubrics that can be utilized in the classroom and the process of constructing a rubric. There are two types of rubrics and of methods for evaluating students’ efforts: holistic and analytic rubrics. The scoring strategy articulates the process of converting the qualitative evaluations of student performance related to each criterion into an overall judgement of the quality of the artifact. The levels can take many different names, and you can choose as many levels as you find appropriate. Performance The pur-pose of the rubric is to guide students in developing and completing their work. By involving students in the creation of the rubric, the students take more responsibility for their own learning, are empowered by being involved in the teaching/learning process, and have a clearer idea of what is expected in terms of specific performance.
